In world divided between graceless vulgarity and crippling political correctness, people (and the media) often teeter between being either provocative or dismissive. People, especially celebrities, often reject ‘incendiary’ words like ‘feminist’ as they are worried about how it will negatively impact their image. That is to say they are worried about being perceived as bra-burning man-haters as opposed to someone who simply believes in equality (looking at you Shailene Woodley). I completely agree with your point-of-view, the demonization of the term “activist” does little to actually help solve the myriad issues that “activists” stand for/against, and instead only begins a pointless discourse over semantics and definition.
